When converting a camera to full-spectrum, a common question is whether it can still shoot in "regular light." The answer is yes, with an external filter designed to cut UV and IR light. Some filters may affect auto white balance, but the image will still be within the visible light spectrum.

 

Introducing the Kolari Hot Mirror Pro 2, the next generation of filters. With over 50 layers of optical coating applied over 10 hours, each Hot Mirror Pro 2 is crafted for quality and precision.

 

Our original hot mirror filter was optimized for the cameras available at the time. Now, almost 10 years later, both cameras and our manufacturing capabilities have evolved. The Hot Mirror Pro 2 offers even higher color accuracy and virtually identical performance to stock cameras with auto white balance. The filter is mounted in new precision brass rings, ensuring perfect threading and easier installation, even with gloves on.

 

The first generation, the Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Filter, had close color accuracy but mixed auto white balance results. The Hot Mirror Pro 2 improves on this, closely matching the color output of a stock camera. After measuring hundreds of modern camera sensor filter transmissions, we refined a filter to match the average transmission of modern digital cameras.

 

Most camera brands use both a blue-absorbing filter and a UV/IR-coated filter to cut UV and IR to ideal levels for visible shooting. Previously, we mimicked this process with our two-spectrum conversion. Now, we've combined these into one product: the Kolari Hot Mirror Pro 2.
