Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Filter

Also known as a lowpass filter or UV/IR cut filter, our UV/IR Cut Color Correcting Hot Mirror Filter blocks infrared light and some UV, and allows a full spectrum converted camera to take normal pictures. Our hot-mirror filters include an anti-reflective corrosion resistant coating, which reduces artifacts and increases durability of the filter in humid regions.

This is the first filter designed specifically for use with a full spectrum or two spectrum converted camera and was designed with a similar transmission of the hotmirror filters that cameras normally employ. Because of its design, it allows for normal use of the camera with all of the regular white balance presets still working. You will notice the color of this filter is blue, unlike other hotmirror filters that are clear. This is a good thing, the original lowpass filters found in cameras are this same shade of blue, this is a visual confirmation that the filter is blocking the same wavelengths.

A note about wide angle: Unlike the B+W 486 filter (a popular hotmirror filter), this filter does not block light by interference, but instead uses absorbtion. This means that regardless of the angle of incidence, the color will not change. The B+W 486 will cause color changes on wide angles around the edges, ours will not.

The filter requires no exposure compensation.

Not all camera lowpass filters have the same transmission. Ours is designed with aggressive IR blockage to eliminate IR leak on all camera models. Consequently, it also has more UV transmission than many cameras, for outdoor uses it is best to pair it with a UV filter, or even better, use it over our two spectrum conversion. See bottom of page for transmission curves.

For best results, this can be paired with our two spectrum conversion to filter out as much UV light that most current camera lowpass filters.

Color performance:

A full spectrum camera, without a filter, will appear very red and needs some form of hot mirror filter to take regular pictuers. Below are samples from a normal camera, a full spectrum camera without a filter, and a full spectrum camera with our filter and two popular hotmirror filters, the Tiffen Hot Mirror and B+W 486 UV/IR cut filter. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason, Kolari accepts returns on most products within 60 days of purchase. We can either provide exchanges in the form of store credit, which can be used sitewide, or we can issue full refunds via the method you originally used for payment. To be eligible for a full refund, the product must be in new, mint condition, including all original, undamaged packaging materials and accessories. Items that are damaged, dirty, dented, scratched, or missing major components may be denied for return. Kolari is not responsible for personal data or items left inside of returned merchandise. Prior Approval All returns must be pre-approved by Kolari before items are sent back. To initiate a return or exchange, please send an email to contact@kolarivision.com with your name, order number, and reason for return. Once the return has been approved, you will receive an RMA/packing slip that must be included in the return shipment. Unless the incorrect product was received or your product arrived damaged or defective, you are responsible for all return shipping costs. Kolari strongly recommends purchasing tracking and insurance when sending items. Kolari will not take responsibility for any returns lost or damaged in the mail. Damaged, Defective, or Incorrect Items It is important to thoroughly inspect all items upon delivery. If you receive a damaged, defective, or incorrect product, please email us at contact@kolarivision.com within 14 days of product delivery to file a claim. Once a claim has been filed, we will work with you to solve the problem. Restocking Fee If any condition of the return policy listed above is not met, Kolari reserves the right to reject the return entirely or impose a restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price of the item, not including shipping. If a returned item is unopened or appears to be in brand-new condition, including packaging and accessories, the restocking fee will be waived.
