FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How portable is the camera once modded?

Because the screen folds to 90 degrees, with a lens attached, the modded Pocket camera will fit in the same space in your bag if the V mount battery is detached.

How do I monitor the V-mount battery’s charge?

Many V-mount batteries feature an LED power level indicator on the side, just click the button to see its remaining power level. It’s also a good idea to toggle the Pocket camera’s battery level indicator to display the voltage, by tapping on it on the main shooting page. When the V-mount battery is full, the voltage should be about 16.8V. When depleted, the voltage will display about 13V. Almost all V-mount batteries feature a low voltage safety cutoff too, so there’s less risk of over-using (over discharging) the battery.

How durable is the V-mount plate?

Due to all parts of the V-mount and display being CNC machined from Aluminium, the V-mount is far more durable than the polycarbonate plastic material the Pocket camera and most V-mount batteries are comprised of. So, the camera is only more durable as a result. If the camera were dropped from a great height, the plastic material of the camera and battery would be more likely to crack or break apart first.

Can I still use the 12V power port on the camera?

Due to the V mount power input needing to be plugged into the power board inside the Pocket camera, the 12V Lemo power port on the side of the Pocket camera will no longer function. It’s recommended that you own at least 2x V-mount batteries for your camera, so you can charge one while using the other for long filming days. Alternatively, main power to V-mount power plug adapters are available online. The camera will also still work with LP-E6 dummy batteries as long as the V-mount battery is not installed. Please do not use an LP-E6 dummy battery at the same time as a V-mount battery, as doing so may cause permanent damage to the camera.

Can I still use the LP-E6 batteries?

Yes! LP-E6 batteries still slot into the battery compartment of the Pocket camera, and the camera can be used with the LP-E6 installed, without a V-mount battery. This means V-mount batteries can be ‘hot-swapped’ during long takes and interviews. When mounted, the V-mount battery will actually charge the internal LP-E6 battery at the same time as powering the camera, so you don’t need to worry about power cycling the camera if you need to change the V-mount battery out. The camera can be used with the V-mount battery without an LP-E6 installed too.

Does it still work on gimbals?

Depending on your lens and gimbal, the back of your V-mount battery may touch the roll motor. It’s recommended that you power the Pocket camera by an LP-E6 dummy battery conected to a V-mount or power out port on your gimbal. However, with a compact lens, most gimbals should function normally. You can also use counterweights to move the payload’s center of gravity toward the back of the camer in order the prevent the battery touching the roll motor.
